J-J-J-January.....Sara Lee
Posted on: January 19, 2012, 3:29 PM
I hope all is well with everyone. We finished mixing our new song Sara Lee last week. We are very excited with the results. It came out better than (at least I) expected and compliments the other six songs we have on the docket for release very well. Sara Lee sounds like something Nick Cave, Tom Waits, the Talking Heads and David Lynch cooked up in the clone-filled future. Lyrically, it's a she-done-me-wrong-song, except "she" is a clone. It may also have Lisa's favorite phrase, "mother fucking clone."
In other news, after re-writing it four to five times, we finally may lay down our song Let it Go. So much work, for such a short song (maybe two minutes). Lisa and I are going to see if our new interpretation works (little to no percussion). If it does, we'll put it to tape (digital and otherwise) early February and it will join the others for release. There should be a total of 8-10 songs on our upcoming release. Fun stuff.
We are also still working on the video for Not for Nothing and hope to get our idea for Predisposed going soon too. If you know of anyone interested in filming, please get in touch. We are talking to folks, but no action yet.

2012 is upon us. Apparently it's the end of the world and all that. On the plus side we'll have a new FULL LENGTH album out this year. We're not exactly sure when, but we are almost completely done mixing, recording and all that. In addition, we've also got one video filmed and in production and have another we may be working on come Spring. Exciting fun times. This site may also be on the docket for a reboot - which would be groovy.
In the immediate future we'll be playing our first show of 2012 at Radio in Somerville with 28 Degrees Taurus and The Sterns. It should be an awesome, eclectic mix of bands. We hope you can swing through. New music soon. We've said that a lot, but this time there's some more umph in that punch.

Rock Show Friday, November 18th at the Middle East
Posted on: November 10, 2011, 1:33 PM
What will likely be our last rock show of the year is next Friday, November 18th at the Middle East Upstairs. We hope you can make it out. We are on the verge of finishing a whole bunch of new music, and will likely share some next Friday.
We're still plugging away and hope to have release new music soon. It looks like we'll be heading back into the studio before that happens, but it shouldn't be a long drawn out process. We should be done VERY soon. Cheers.
Happy Fall

We've been working on a slew of new songs and may record a few to add to the songs we just wrapped up this summer. Those songs are still not matered (not completely finished). We are hoping to release a single soon (by year's end) and another shortly thereafter (early next year). We may have videos released with the new singles - all stuff we are hashing out now and will let you know once they come to fruition.
We are playing our first Halloween cover show Saturday, October 29th at Church. We will be playing a set of Prince songs. It's going to be a blast. Mike Ward (St. Helena, Private Shapes, x-Sun Lee Sunbeam) will be sitting in on guitar and we may have keys as well. If you're into Prince, cover shows or just a plain old good time, I would highly recommend you come to this show.
Our next show of our own music is Friday, November 17th with Brendan Boogie & the Best Intentions, the John Powhida International Airport and the Future Carnivores. Great lineup. It si likely we will be playing at least one new song at this show.
Happy Summer

The June Residency at the Rosebud is over. Over the course of the month, we debuted one brand new song and cover as well as two completely reworked songs. Great performances abound each night. Thank you to those who were a part – either performing or attending. Here is video of us performing at the last residency show (6.24) -
Falling Down - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWprxVpqbg
This month we should wrap up recording for Not for Nothing, Predisposed, Seemingly Endless, Falling Down and Teammates. We are done tracking all but Seemingly Endless, which just needs some overdubs. We are excited to share, but they likely won’t be out until late Fall / Winter, maybe even next year. We’re working out specs. We are kicking around video ideas and hope to get production going soon. We may need help. We'll let you know.
Catch us at the Middle East Downstairs opening for God is an Astronaut and Monogold Thursday, August 4th.
June Residency & Recording

Our June Residency at the Rosebud is right around the corner. The details to all of the shows are on our gigs page. The kickoff will be fun - it's a five band bill starting 8:00 PM Friday, June 3rd. The Autumn Hollow Band, Trucker Mouth, Dr. Fox and our old friends the New Dumb are on board. We'll debut at least one new song and/or cover at every show during the residency. Each night will be it's own.
We haven't posted about recording since starting the process, but we're still slugging away at it. We're right around the corner and almost finished with three out of the five songs. Before hitting the studio we posted we'd record Not For Nothing, Predisposed, Seemingly Endless and Teammates. We added Falling Down as well (which of course turned out to be the easiest to record). These have been the toughest sessions we've done, but also the most rewarding. We will be playing each of the songs throughout the residency. You can check out videos to Predisposed and Seemingly Endless below.
After the residency we'll be working on some other fun projects and will let you know about them. We will still release our song, Acquaintances, probably as a free download on our Bandcamp page (and here). We'll let you know when that pops.

Howdy peeps,
Very excited - During June we have a weekly residency at the Rosebud Bar in Davis Sq, Somerville. It's three and one (three Fridays, one Saturday). All of the shows are in our gig calendar and there's some local awesomeness on board: Noise Coverboy Gene Dante and his Future Starlets, The Future Everybody, The Rationales, Sarah Rabdau and the Self-Employed Assassins, Parlour Bells, The Diamond Mines, The Autumn Hollow Band, the New Dumb and the Boogie Man (Brendan Boogie). The dates are June 3rd, 11th, 17th and 24th. For specs on each night, check out our gig page.
Before June we're at the Middle East Upstairs, Friday, April 29. We're kicking off a rad night with Mount Peru, The Russians and Guillermo Sexo. Dancers welcome.
March Recording and Upcoming Events

Just Bill at Hit and Run Boston posted video of Seemingly Endless and Predisposed from our February 19th show at the Middle East Upstairs. I hope to finally get video up on the video section of this site in the coming weeks, but for now here are links -
Seemingly Endless - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee5jApnWiqA
Predisposed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtTJPrXrJ98
Our Rolling Stones' set at the British Invasion Cover Up at the Lizard Lounge was a huge success. Thanks to Brendan Boogie and Andrea Kremer for putting it together. Haven't found any video, but there's pictures on Facebook.
We hit the studio this weekend. Gearing up for it involves a lot of prep for everyone and neurosis for me (Chris). The songs are written; structures, verses and choruses are there, but we nuance a lot in the studio. Overdubs and textures are fluid and flexible. A lot happens on the spot. Veronica Dale (keys) and Mike Ward (guitar) sat in to work out potential overdubs. Everything comes together after this first weekend.
We will be share our track Acquaintances very soon. Although busy in the studio, we are playing the Middle East Downstairs Wednesday, March 9 with Pepper Rabbit and Rural Alberta Advantage. We open the night at 9:00 PM. Cheers.
Recording New Songs
Posted on: March 3, 2011, 10:39 AM
Very soon we will record four songs that have been constants in our sets - Not for Nothing, Seemingly Endless, Predisposed (described by Mike in the Press/ Goodnight Records as "the disco song") and Teammates. Not For Nothing has been our consistent closer since we brought it into the live set. It was a bit of a watershed moment in our sound development. It pushed us more into dancier rhythms, something on bright display in Seemingly Endless and Predisposed. Seemingly Endless started as a nod to Neil Young that evolved into a sprawling (seemingly endless) dance song. Predisposed was written in response to a personal tragedy and was going to have a rhythm based on turmoil, but one practice the dance version clicked. Teammates is the simplest of the four. It is based on a chord progression I had been infatuated with for years. I kept trying to force melodies over it, but finally one day I gave up on words and just started cooing. Lisa harmonizes and the only lyrics we sing are on the chorus - "Will you be on my side?"
We are very excited to record these songs. All of them were written in the last year and a half, performed throughout our fall tour, and very much reflect our band's writing process. I (Chris) still write the songs, but we really flesh them out and challenge ourselves to make each song exciting. The new songs complete a transition that Love and Fear started. Stars & Garters was definitively gritty and Pixies-esque. Love and Fear moved away from that and these new songs move even further away.
We will also record Falling Down and Let It Go - maybe not in the first session, but within the coming months. I wrote Falling Down a long time ago, but we've modulated it and re-arranged it. Let It Go I wrote in an afternoon. My love of Magnetic Fields, David Byrne and Bob Dylan is on display. It is folksy and ultitmately a melodic conversation between Lisa and I.
February is fun

The 'f' in February is for fun!
Saturday, February 19th we return to the Middle East Upstairs with This Blue Heaven, St. Helena and Leo Blais. It's a great lineup, so get your tickets early.
We are participating in our first ever Cover Up - the hugely successful series hosted by the one and only Brendan Boogie. Brendan does great work, and this will be no exception. This is The British Invasion Cover Up at the Lizard Lounge Friday, February 24th. We will be performing a set of early Rolling Stones tunes (with one or two exceptions). Mike Ward (Sun Lee Sunbeam, St. Helena) will be joining us on the guitar to fill Keith Richards' shoes.
We've kicked the tires for a while, and it's come to concensus that we are FINALLY going to release the track Acquaintances in the very near future. It was recorded with Matt Girard (Motion Sick, Future Everybodies, Neutral Yuke Hotel) last summer. Details to follow.
